1. PROMIS Pain Interference scores and Health-Related Quality of Life in patients with end-stage kidney disease

Ahmed, T., Afzal, A., Lui, E., Ullah, N., Li, J., Bartlett, S., Li, M., Howell, D., Peipert, J., Novak, M., Mucsi, I. (2020).

PROMIS® Health Organization (PHO) 2020 Conference Toward Patient-Centered Care: PROMIS Implementations and Advances Abstracts. J Patient Rep Outcomes 4, 93 (2020).

Chronic pain is highly prevalent in patients with end stage kidney disease (ESKD). However, its association with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among Canadian patients is not fully understood. The US NIH-funded Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) program has developed and validated tools to assess physical, emotional and social domains across chronic illnesses. The objective of this study was to assess the association of pain interference with HRQoL among patients with ESKD.

2. Lower Social Support is Associated with Higher Social Difficulties Amongst Patients with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD).

Khoo, Y., Li, V., Li, R., Li, D., Edwards, N., Novak, M., Mucsi, I. (2019).

Journal of Psychosomatic Research.

Adequate social support has reportedly been associated with reduced distress, anxiety and depression. However, little information is available about the potential association between social support and social difficulties among patients with ESKD. Here we assess the association between social support and social difficulties among patients with ESKD.

3. Evaluation of PROMIS Preference Scoring System (PROPr) in Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis or Kidney Transplant.

Zhang, J., Breitner, D., Dewitt, B., Hanmer, J., Saqib, M., Li, D., Edwards, N., Peipert, J., Novak, M., Mucsi, I. (2019).

PHO 2019 Conference Abstracts.

A preference-based health utility score (PROPr) can be calculated using Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System domain scores. We assessed the construct validity of PROPr among patients treated with KRT (hemodialysis or kidney transplant).

4. Health Utility And Social Distress In Kidney Transplant (KT) Recipients.

2019 American Transplant Congress

Preference-based measures of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) or health utility, such as the EuroQol-5D5L (EQ5), cover multiple health domains and are combined into a single summary score. Preference-based scoring allows for estimates of quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) that afford comparisons among treatment options in clinical decision-making and economic analysis. Social support, financial and interpersonal difficulties are important determinants of HRQOL in patients with kidney transplant (KT). The Social Difficulties Inventory (SDI) has been developed to assess practical, financial, and interpersonal concerns in patients with cancer. The SDI score was an independent predictor of HRQOL in patients with cancer. Here we assess the association between SDI score and the EQ5 health utility score among patients with KT.
